Flirting with Moxy on a Sunday

I've been keeping a journal since October 2009 in order jot down thoughts that come to mind. I've taken in with me on the Peru Inca trail while I camping in soggy weather in my tent. I've taken it with me in the plane to New Zealand. Some of the notes I've kept in here have allowed me to capture those days where I feel I'm on the cusp of reaching Moxy. That feeling that you're connecting well with people that you meet during your day. Connecting with people from different walks of life if only for a moment or several minutes you can learn so much and I find it puts me in a positive emotional state at end of the day. A sample of almost Moxy Sunday would goes as follows:

- positive conversation with my hair stylist William, and bumping into my friends wife Jenn and having a positive and friendly chat with her
- having a conversation with the building maintenance guy about dim sum restaurants
- Charming the lady at the front desk who was nice enough to give us the corner table at Kirin in City Square for a dimsum with my family and having a respectful positive conversation with my father
- Having a conversation with the Jimmy's Cold beer and wine store about getting a liquor license
-Meeting with a group of friends at the beach and having a positive rapport with each of them, and connecting well with on of your best friends
- At the beach starting a conversation with an older lady to chat with her about her English Bulldog
- At the beach starting a conversation with some attractive young ladies from the beach washroom back to my friends bbq
- Walking out of my apartment building and immediately starting a conversation with a pair of attractive girls in their early 20's
-Cross the street to my apartment and meeting some young ladies from Edmonton that were in town for the UFC 115 event
- Starting a conversation with an attractive 26 year old women on Robson and Seymour that works at a club
- starting a conversation with a guy studying in front of starbucks to talk about the state of dating in Vancouver
- Having a positive conversation with a friend that just came back from San Fran and having her suggest we meet to catch up.

After a day like this I feel great about myself because of all the positive momentum that has accumulated during the day. Its a great feeling to be able to have a conversation with any person you choose on the street and people you encounter during the day.

Its a feeling of social mastery, a level of comfort talking with just about anyone, generating social value that attracts people. A feeling of respect. Showing consideration being the last one to get out of the elevator and having 2 people from that elevator hold the next door open for you. Its a smile you feel good about showing people because you are genuinely happy.

To underscore this point. Its a confidence that radiates from within you and that people can sense. It feels like a super power on some days. Its Moxy.

To have one of these days certainly didn't come overnight. Its been 9 months of self reflecting, ongoing learning, listening to feedback, and most importantly putting all into practice. I believe my skills or my powers are gradually increasing with practice and time. Some people may naturally have some of these skills, but I wasn't one of them.

I've been inspired by teachings from Zach Browman from Social Fluency, Cultural Intelligence by David Thomas, Success Magazine and Dale Carnegie.

I'm Greg Hung and I'm know that while this journey is only 9 months long I'm excited where it will lead with more knowledge, experience, and learning.

I want to share my journey with you so we can learn how to live life with Moxy everyday of our lives.
